A specialty match is a stand alone single stage match that utilizes the main match guns in a speed and accuracy contest. This type of match also involves guns not found in the main match. Guns such as single actions, hammerless colt automatics,1917 smith or colt, vintage sniper rifles, and even modern pcc have a place here. Participation is voluntary to enter any or all. By many competitors these are found to be a big deal with participation exceeding 90% of the main match participants. Specialty matches were previously called side matches. We think they are more important than an afterthought just to fill time and burn ammunition. Specialty matches are as important to the competitors shooting them as is the main match.
A word about specialty matches. Not all are offered at every big match. They are picked by the
match director. The MD will modify and fit the specialty matches to suit the facilities and time
allotted.
